There's been a lot of talk on SiouxWIRE about "high brow" and "low brow", but the fallout from this deliberately "low brow" work is going to have repercussions for all films. According to The Independent in the UK, the films will almost certainly not appear as a double bill and Rodriguez's Planet Terror is likely to be a DVD only release. Furthermore, the edit of Death Proof is likely to differ from what appeared in the original release.
I thought this was a great idea and a good portion of the critics thought it worked as well yet the American audience(as a whole) did not, and thus audiences in the UK and other territories will never have the opportunity to experience Grindhouse as it was meant to be seen. The odd thing is that the American and international box office are quite different with the exception of a few heavily marketed blockbusters.
I wanted to see Tarantino's and Rodriguez's project succeed not only because I enjoy their work but by pulling the old concept of the double feature out of mothballs, they were pushing the boundaries of mainstream film out that little bit further.
